About this tour
In Barbaresco you climb the medieval tower for the view over the Tanaro hills, and visit the regional wine library housed in the deconsecrated church of San Donato, where the Barbaresco of dozens of different growers can be tasted in one room. In Neive, one of the officially designated finest villages in Italy, you walk uphill between brick houses and drink wherever you find yourself.
It is the right half day if you already have an estate booked in the morning, if you arrive late from Turin or Milan, or if you simply want to see the Langhe without committing the whole day.
Itinerary
-
Pickup where you are staying 20 min
We collect you in Alba or one of the Langhe villages. From Alba it is ten minutes on roads through the vines.
-
Barbaresco: the tower and the wine library 1h 30min
Up the medieval tower, then down into the church of San Donato, now the regional wine library, to taste growers who have no tasting room of their own.
-
The ridge road to Neive 20 min
Fifteen minutes of narrow road above the Tanaro with vines on both sides. The part nobody photographs and everybody remembers.
-
Neive on foot 1h 15min
The old village runs uphill, all brick and courtyards. An hour covers it, including a stop at the bar on the square or in one of the wine shops.
-
Drive back 20 min
We take you back to where you are staying, or into Alba if you would rather stay in town for the evening.

- Adding an estate needs at least two days notice.
- The half day runs morning or afternoon: the afternoon light on the hills is better.
- Paid on the day, in cash, directly to the driver.

Frequently asked questions
Do we visit an estate?
Not in the base price. The regional wine library in Barbaresco lets you taste many growers without an appointment; if you want a visit at an estate we book it, just say so.
How is this different from the Barolo and Barbaresco wine tour?
This is half a day about the villages, with open tastings at the wine library. The wine tour is a day built around booked cellar visits, across two appellations.
Can it be done arriving from Turin?
Yes, by adding the transfer. Many guests book it for their arrival day: airport transfer, half a day in the hills, hotel by the evening.
How much walking is there?
A little over a kilometre in total, but almost all of it uphill and on cobbles. The Barbaresco tower is climbed on foot.
