Turin to Alba: all the options.
Alba is seventy kilometres from Turin, an hour on the road. There are three real options: the direct train, a car (your own or hired) and a private transfer booked in advance. Below are the times, the prices and the point at which each one stops working, updated July 2026.

By train: there is a direct one, and it works
Regional trains from Turin to Alba run direct in about an hour and twenty minutes, roughly hourly, with around fifteen services a day. The ticket costs a little over seven euro. It is the best option if you are sleeping in Alba itself, travelling with one bag and arriving in daylight: the station is a few minutes on foot from the old town.
By car: the drive is easy
Seventy kilometres of motorway and dual carriageway, then the descent into Alba. An hour, Sunday evening traffic aside. The real reckoning comes later: in the Langhe you need the car every day, Alba's centre is pedestrianised, and if the plan involves cellars then somebody in the group has to stay sober for the whole holiday.
By private transfer: from Turin city
A reserved vehicle that leaves your hotel or the station at the time you choose and reaches your exact address, hillside farmhouse included. Turin to Alba is 160 euro in a Mercedes E-Class sedan (or similar) and 180 in a V-Class minivan (or similar) seating up to eight: that is the price of the vehicle, not of the person. Paid on arrival.

If you land at Turin-Caselle the transfer starts at arrivals, with a name sign and a monitored flight: 210 euro by sedan and 235 by minivan, an hour and a quarter to Alba. By train you would first have to reach Porta Susa from the airport and then change, which doubles the time and multiplies the number of times you lift your suitcases.

About an hour and a quarter by car, over a hundred and four kilometres. There is no direct public-transport link between Caselle and Alba: by train you must come down into the city, change and set off again, which easily reaches two and a half hours door to door. The private transfer is 210 euro by sedan and 235 by minivan, per vehicle, with arrivals-hall waiting already included.
Where the train stops working
The train reaches Alba, and for Alba that is enough. But almost nobody comes to the Langhe to stay in Alba: people sleep in Barolo, La Morra, Monforte, Serralunga or a farmhouse among the vines, and those places have no station. Buses between the villages are rare, on Sundays there are none, and the final kilometre is often an unsurfaced climb. That is where the sums change: the train takes you halfway, and the rest still has to be solved.
When the private transfer is the right call
Not always. These are the cases where, once you do the maths, it genuinely wins.

- You are flying in with luggage and a flight that might be late
- The plan involves wineries and nobody wants to stay dry
